Ocaquatics swim schools celebrated a milestone event on Feb. 1. Open for 32 years teaching water safety, the schools also had reached 3.2 million swim lessons.

For the event, families, swimmers, and team members were invited to a free community celebration at Ocaquatics’ Eureka location. The celebration was intended to be an outdoor event in front of the building, but the unusually cold winter weather changed the plans.

“The party was a huge hit, even though we had to move it indoors because of the cold,” said Miren Oca, founder and CEO of the Miami-based swim school.

The birthday celebration featured family and environmentally friendly activities, including water safety education and interactive experiences for all ages. Several of Ocaquatics’ “1% for the Planet” partners were in attendance, along with Ripples of Impact, Ocaquatics’ nonprofit organization, which shared information about its swim scholarship programs.

“Thirty two years ago, Ocaquatics began with a simple but powerful goal, to help families feel safer, more confident and more responsible around the water,” Oca said. “Reaching 3.2 million swim lessons is incredibly humbling because each lesson represents a child, a family and a moment of trust. I am deeply grateful to our families, our community and especially our team members, whose care and commitment have made this work possible for more than three decades. We are proud of what we have built together and excited to continue creating safer swimmers and stronger communities for many years to come.”

Founded in 1994, the swim school has spent more than three decades creating safer swimmers while using business as a force for good. Ocaquatics has earned recognition as a Top Workplace in South Florida, GOLD for Best Swim School in the 2025 Miami-Dade Favorites competition, and the distinction of being named a 2025 Best Place to Work in Miami.

As a Certified B Corporation, Ocaquatics meets high standards of social and environmental performance, actively participating in beach cleanups and free water safety education. In 2024, the school transitioned to a 100 percent employee-owned structure through an Employee Ownership Trust.
