The watch industry is one with a heart. Not only the heart that beats inside of a mechanical watch, but also one that fuels a passion for giving amongst the community. Many luxury watch brands have charitable and philanthropic causes they support. Others support health, education, environmental issues and more. Every other year, there is also an entire auction called Only Watch, wherein watch brands create a one-of-a-kind watch and donate it to the auction, which benefits Duchene Muscular Dystrophy research.

German watch brand A. Lange & Sohne now takes another step, by creating a one-of-a-kind complicated watch that will be auctioned to benefit The Prince’s Trust, a youth charity developed by HRH The Prince of Wales that helps people from the ages of 11 to 30 to develop essential life skills.
The A. Lange & Sohne 1815 Chronograph “Hampton Court Edition” watch features an 18-karat white gold case and a totally black solid silver dial with sandstone colored markers. It is the first time A. Lange & Sohne has paired a white gold case with a black dial and sandstone since the collection made its debut in 2004. On the outer edge of the dial is a tachymeter scale, making it a perfect association with the car event. The chronograph times to one-fifth of a second accuracy.

The 39.5mm watch is powered by the 306-part Lange Caliber L951.5 movement with column-wheel chronograph, jumping minute counter and a flyback function. The manually wound movement offers 60 hours of power reserve when fully wound. The case back, which is a half-hunter case that opens to reveal the finely finished movement beneath a sapphire crystal, is engraved with the “Concours of Elegance” words and winged horse, the sign of the Concourse of Elegance 2022, where Lange will present the watch to Philips in Association with Bacs & Russo, which will put the watch up for bid at its annual Geneva Watch Auction every November. This year Auction XVI will take place on November 6.
Impressions of the Concourse of Elegance at Hampton Court
For four years, A. Lange & Söhne has partnered with the Concours of Elegance that this year takes place from September 2-4 on the grounds of Hampton Court Palace outside of London. The event is a showcase for rare cars, and this year it will celebrate 60 automobiles that include Ferrari, Bugatti, Aston Martin and more.
In a press release issued by A. Lange & Sohne, brand CEO Wilhelm Schmid said, “The parallels between the worlds of classic automobiles and classic timepieces are striking. The focus is on automobiles, on motion. In keeping with our motto to never stand still, we want to move things this year in social terms, too. The Prince’s Trust enables children and adolescents to recognize and meaningfully use their potential.
