This September, some of New York City’s hottest shows on Broadway will come with a price – as a two-for-one ticket special.
NYC & Company, the city’s tourism board, has announced that the fall 2022 iteration of “NYC Broadway Week” will resume this year with its theater sales promotion. The two-for-one admission campaign will involve 21 participating Broadway productions on performance dates between September 6 and September 25, 2022.
Given a three-year hiatus due to the global pandemic, it is the first time this biannual program has been offered since 2019. Tickets are now available for purchase.
Now in its 11th year, “NYC Broadway Week” is also held in partnership with The Broadway League, a national trade association for the Broadway industry, and Mastercard, which is being referred to as NYC & Company’s preferred payment partner.
“Since its launch in 2011, ‘NYC Broadway Week’ has offered visitors and locals alike the world’s best theatrical experiences at a remarkable value,” said NYC Company President and CEO Fred Dixon in a media statement. “With choices ranging from Tony Award winners and kid-friendly favorites, to new productions and beloved classics, there is something for everyone.”
The roster of 21 participating Broadway shows in the “NYC Broadway Week” fall 2022 edition includes nine newcomers to the program and 12 previously involved productions. Tickets to some of these shows are subject to availability, as blackout dates may apply.
Participating productions include:
Presented by the Roundabout Theatre Company, this award-winning musical portrays the people and events behind the signing of the Declaration of Independence. However, this current version gets revised through a cast of female, nonbinary and trans actors. Performances are held at the American Airlines Theatre.
The Disney Broadway adaptation of the movie has brought Aladdin, Princess Jasmine, Jafar and the Genie to the stage at the New Amsterdam Theatre. Directed by Casey Nicholaw, the magical production also features songs from the film’s hit soundtrack.
“A Strange Loop”
In 2022, this Tony Award-winning musical received many statuettes in categories ranging from Best Musical, to Best Book of a Musical, to Scenic Design, Lighting Design, Direction and Original Score. Taking place at the Lyceum Theatre, Michael R. Jackson’s Pulitzer Price-winning work centers on a young Black and queer writer struggling with penning about a musical about these two identities.
“Cost of Living”
At the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre, Martyna Majok’s 2018 Pulitzer Prize winning play heads to Broadway after a run at the Manhattan Theatre Club. It explores the relationship between people with disabilities and their caregivers.
This musical comedy, about the life and times of Fanny Brice, has undergone its very first revival more than 50 years after its debut. It is taking place at the August Wilson Theatre.
Other new shows in “NYC Broadway Week” fall 2022 include “Death of a Salesman,” “The Kite Runner,” The Piano Lesson” and “SIX.”
“NYC Broadway Week” also will have two-for-one discounts on some of the Great White Way’s long-running shows. They include “The Book of Mormon,” “Chicago,” “Come From Away,” “The Lion King,” “The Phantom of the Opera” and “Wicked.”
Other featured shows include “Hadestown,” “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” “Into The Woods,” “MJ: The Musical” and “Moulin Rouge! The Musical.”
Autumn 2022 will have another significance for Broadway. According to Charlotte St. Martin, president of The Broadway League, this fall will mark one year since Broadway’s reopening in 2021.
In the same media announcement, St. Martin acknowledged that since then The Great White Way has welcomed nearly 9.3 million theatergoers to New York City.
“The return of fall ‘NYC Broadway Week’ is a fantastic way for locals and visitors to experience thrilling live theater in one of the world’s most exciting cities,” said St. Martin, president of The Broadway League. “The variety offered is sure to please audiences ranging from the frequent to the first-time guest.”
