Stellantis Starts 2026 Jeep Cherokee Hybrid in Toluca

Stellantis has begun production of the all-new 2026 Jeep Cherokee Hybrid at its Toluca Assembly Complex in the State of Mexico, marking the formal launch of a new industrial program that positions the facility as the sole global production site for the model and the exclusive supplier for the Mexican market.

The first unit rolled off the line on Feb. 9, 2026, signaling the start of a program that reinforces Mexico’s role within Stellantis’ electrification strategy and North American manufacturing footprint. The Toluca plant will produce the Cherokee Hybrid for domestic sales and export markets across the region.

“The beginning of production makes Mexico a manufacturing and export hub for the Jeep Cherokee Hybrid, the fourth SUV of the brand produced in the country,” Stellantis Mexico said in a statement, referencing its previously announced US$1.6 billion investment in the Toluca facility at the end of 2024.

The launch comes three years after Stellantis suspended gasoline-powered Cherokee production at the site due to excess inventory. The new hybrid variant represents the reactivation of the nameplate under an electrified configuration.

“The start of production of the Jeep Cherokee Hybrid from Mexico for Mexico is an important milestone in the history of the plant. The production quality we have achieved reflects technological and manufacturing excellence. We are proud that Mexican customers will soon have access to a locally manufactured Jeep SUV,” said Carlos Rivera, Vice President of Manufacturing, Stellantis Mexico.

According to company information, the Cherokee Hybrid is the fourth Jeep SUV assembled in Mexico and the second electrified vehicle Stellantis manufactures in the country, following the launch of battery-electric vehicle production at the Toluca plant in 2024. Within Stellantis’ local electrified portfolio, the Cherokee Hybrid joins the fully electric Wagoneer S.

The start of production aligns with broader electrification trends in Mexico’s automotive sector. Stellantis’ move follows Toyota’s production of the hybrid Tacoma in Mexico for domestic and export markets, making the Cherokee Hybrid one of a limited number of electrified models currently assembled in the country.

Operational data from 2025 indicate that the Toluca plant assembled 130,254 units during the year, representing 46.69% of its installed capacity. This utilization rate suggests available production headroom to accommodate additional programs such as the Cherokee Hybrid.

In December 2025, the plant initiated pilot production, assembling 25 Cherokee Hybrid units to validate manufacturing processes, quality standards, and production cadence ahead of full-scale ramp-up.

Under the current manufacturing plan, mass production is scheduled to begin in 1Q26. Internal projections estimate annual US sales of between 35,000 and 50,000 Cherokee units. To support that volume, the Toluca plant is expected to scale output to approximately 2,900 to 4,200 units per month.

The  Cherokee Hybrid will be available in two versions in Mexico: Limited 4×4, priced at MX$899,900 (US$52,312), and Overland 4×4, priced at MX$949,900 (US$55,218).

The new Cherokee is built on Stellantis’ STLA Large platform, one of the company’s next-generation architectures designed to support electrified powertrains. The model is offered exclusively in a hybrid configuration, combining a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine with an electric motor. The system delivers a combined output of 210 horsepower and 230 lb-ft of torque and is paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

The vehicle features all-wheel drive with multiple off-road driving modes. Stellantis reports a combined fuel consumption rating of approximately 13 kilometers per liter (km/l). The hybrid-only strategy marks a departure from the previous generation, which offered conventional gasoline powertrains.

In terms of equipment, the 2026 Cherokee includes a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch infotainment display featuring the latest Uconnect interface. Standard and available features include a digital rearview mirror with camera feed, hands-free power liftgate, heated and ventilated front seats, panoramic sunroof, and a suite of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).

The exterior design incorporates LED lighting, wheel options ranging from 18 to 20 inches, and seven body color options, including two-tone configurations. Interior updates emphasize soft-touch materials and a blend of physical controls and digital interfaces.

The launch of Cherokee Hybrid production extends Stellantis’ recent investment cycle in Mexico. In 2024, the company initiated electric vehicle production at the Toluca plant as part of a US$1.6 billion investment program.
